Who knows? I'm sure he likes to do what he loves (make music), regardless of what people think he contributes. What does everyone else think they do for hip hop? Fuck what other people think, do it for yourself.

I feel 50 cent is the second coming for all the Tupac and Biggie fans.....before, all these rappers were pussies....so Eminem had 50 do a song with biggie and a song with Tupac (which is so f**king lame) and there ya go, the second coming of gangster rap is born...i mean, this guys been shot, who wouldnt like him...as for doing anything for hip hop, all he is doing is keeping the gangster s**t alive.... he will fade out soon tho.

i don't think he does anything significant. he's just another cog in the wheel. plus he only has one album under his belt. give him time see what happens. i personally am not into his stuff but i understand why other people like it. he is very talented and business savvy.

Re: what does 50cent do for hiphop?

i think he is significant based on the face he is one of the few rap artists selling big numbers still. he's not the hip-hop savior or super lyricist of the year but that is still significant.

i think the image and persona of 50 cent is completely ignorant and silly but i still appreciate his music on some level. i wont pay to see him live or buy into the hype around him. i HATE the "put myself and my kid in a bulletproof vest" style but i'll still listen to the cd i bought now and then.

his mixtapes were good but to get airplay you gotta compromise a lot of different things like style, integrity etc etc. it's part of the grand paper chase..

heh. again, debatable. then again, "integrity" is also an easily skewed argument. the topic of the thread was whether or not he "does" anything for hiphop. IMHO, he doesn't do jack s**t except reinforce that which has been already established by the people you just mentioned (dre and em)... so if all he's doing is maintaining his position as a "cog in the wheel", he isn't DOING much for the music and it's progression, if you ask me.

but.. since i don't make dollars, i don't make much sense... lol

Re: what does 50cent do for hiphop?

yeah it does seem it is harder for mcs to come original these days whether it be commercial or indie...I think a lot of mcs are blessed with the production and sound behind thier voice that really highlights them as an artist...I think a lot of the time, the producer is so underated and overseen. I mean the sound is what shapes everything around it

Re: what does 50cent do for hiphop?

it is kind of like the saying, "actions speak louder than words." In this case the beats are more of an impact than the lyrics, the sound is what gets people up and moving. Don't get me wrong some songs as in lyrics can be very powerful and moving as well.

Re: what does 50cent do for hiphop?

its reallly funny to see people get so animated over how much they think so and so rapper sucks. don't waste your valuable energy. if he "f**ken sucks" why even comment on it, why take the time out of your day to slam someone else? i may not like 50 cent but i respect the level that he has attained, i mean i don't see any of us there? and as for producers being underrated i have to disagree. for the last 5-6 years producers have been shining. everymonth i go into the bookstore i see a producer gracing well known magazine covers. the neptunes are now living legends, timbaland will go down in history, roni size, questlove, dr dre, rza and countless others receive there props and often times outshine the artists that they themselves produce.

Re: what does 50cent do for hiphop?

personally, his rhymes don't do much for me at all, but i'm not really sure if he's got skills or not, because I honestly haven't heard ANY of his tracks AT ALL ...so you neva know. I haven't even heard any of his songs on the radio all the way through ...I guess it just doesn't do it for me, or it aint my style because i've never really took the time or effort listening to his music.

And you can't really judge a man and his abilities based on a couple of songs the radio n media decide to play over ...n over ..n over again, because his other tracks that are unheard of might be tiight ...who knows ...i dont. hehe .... :P plus i'm not sure if it's him, but i was readin an ad for Cage's new cd, i think it's already out ...but anyways it says that this guy named Reef is featured on it, and in parentheses it said 50 cent ..so i'm guessin it's him. I wana peep this track, anyone know if it's really him?!?!

but anywaise ...even if i aint diggin him, the fact that so many others do ]...the majority of young hip hop heads through out this country does] like him shows me that he is significant [somewhat, atleast to certain peoples] and does mean somethin n has some kind of importance in this whole hip hop industry n biz ...even if i don't like his s**t ...he's still got my respect, juss cuz he's doin his thang, the way he wants and chooses to do it, n he's makin bank ...

but its not like your even stating an opinion, its more like you're stating that its a fact that hes sucks AND that everything the industry puts out people will like(at least be realistic). the message also didn't say who here thinks 50cent "f**ken sucks" either so what's your point? seriously, do you want people to at least RESPECT the music that you yourself make(esp dnb something that is not really accepted here in the us)?
