LIL KIM - LIGHTAS UP

Has anyone heard this song yet?

I just caught the video this morning - for the first time, and I must say that I'm not feeling it at all.

It's called Lighta's Up, but part of the chorus is "Welcome To Brooklyn" -- and its a weak remake/bite off of Damian Marley's "Welcome To Jamrock" - and she even tries to flow like him in the verses --- to me, she just didn't pull it off well...

any thoughts?

all i can say is im glad you didnt make this post to glorify the song haha

yeah its weak. however i can feel like 5 remixes coming in the next year when someone gets a hold of the acapella.. its just so obvious...which really sucks cause its one of those cheesy tunes that people will undoubtedly love.. and we will be forced to hear it time after time til it dies haha

Well.... Welcome to Jamrock is the s**t!!!

I've been feelin' it for quite some time now, then recently it blew up (even though its been out for a long time now)... and there is already a really weak remix of it by Mashonda, called Welcome to Harlem... So, when I saw Lil Kim's take, I was thinking --- OH NO! These weak remixes are gonna cheapen the original.... oh well, what are you gonna do?

Wait, she got FIVE? And the Ed walked out on his magazine when Little Brother's "Minstrel Show" got 4.5, but LITTLE KIM got 5?!?!??

don't know what the fuss is about; music is all relation and i'm sure that some lamen somewhere can relate to what lil kim is saying...just because a lot of us in this forum are on another level of understanding far superior to what lil kim is saying: don't hate

^^^totally true and i am the first to always defend what others think is good, but what i think is bad. My problem with the rating is that it was super-duper political. U can go on any hip hop website and read about it.

A) How the same subsiderary label put out both Lil Kim and Lil Brother and some at the Source "allegedly" didn't want 2 5 mic albums from the same label

B) Allegedly there were sexual (and not between Kim and/or anyone [remember artists a lot of times are a lot of image] but between someone affiliated with her (Kim) and someone high up at the Source

C) The rumor that Lil Brother WAS to get 5 mics, but because they were not "known", did not have the backing of another star artist (u know how like 50 puts on Tony Yayo) and also their entire album was a harsh paraody of the hip hop music industry, they got downgraded (mic ratings wise)

D) the Source just has lost a lot of credibility over the years.

it was these reasons why i didn't think her album deserved 5 mics, not the material (which i didn't like, but hey i didn't think Biggie's last album deserved it either). it was just too many shenanigans clouding it. On another note i think Kim (reading and hearing about her trial) was wronged by her good "friends" and is going to prison because of it. Yep she did lie and that is a no-no, but i hear that she is a super super super kind woman and the peope she was defending she took in as family and cared for. I don't think she is a hoe or anything (though she rhymes about it and frankly it ain't my biznezz if she is). Just suks how it went down imo~

^^^i don't agree often w/ xyz but i have to on this issues because i just feel that we as open minded individuals or at least we say and think we are; sure are acting closed minded on s**t we dislike. i don't have time to harbor hate too busy surviving in a beautiful struggle.
