DRUMNBASS DANCE SCENE IS DEAD!?
I remember walkin in to parties to see people jumpin.. party is vibing and the circle is busting! everyone all around is having a good time and the vibe around the venue is hype !
Ive noticed alot lately that our dnb scene is missin alot of dancers bboys , bgirls poppers and lockers representing for the music and the scene. where have they all gone?
I mean.. we still have the original kats repping here and there.. but its only a few of us
there's some new kids Ive been seeing getting down which is a good thing. but what happened to the kats the use to repp it for the dnb sounds back in the days
bboy Tails
Wavomatic
Tetris
lil rock
bboy Rawgee
Enerjectic
Skywalker
Pandora
I kno most of them got their own thing going and thats great.
but would it make any difference to a party if there were no dancers or circles ? |

Re: DRUMNBASS DANCE SCENE IS DEAD!?
I remember too. Others that come to mind right now are Rubz, Siraaj, Junglewoman, heck, all kinds of people. And yes, it makes a difference to me if there are circles. It's part of why you don't see me out much anymore . . . I love watching talented people dance more than most things in life. *sigh*

Re: DRUMNBASS DANCE SCENE IS DEAD!?
i stopped dancing because:
1) i realized im terrible at it
2) i got depressed
3) breifly lost my taste for dnb :/
but i believe that a lot of heads stopped going out when the scene shifted from being pretty underground to being more of a club thing i.e. parties stopped being at wherehouses and started being at clubs, and that sortof makes it less exciting and completely changes the vibe.
just my $.02

Re: DRUMNBASS DANCE SCENE IS DEAD!?
There's just way to many parties and so little time. The scene is blowing up! Everyone's scattered all over, that's why we need professor X to get in Cerebro and try to unite us like X-men so that we can defeat evil! Or at least just Dance. I'm always down to session Maxx whenever I'm not at work. Hitz me up.
Oh damn, Mantas has got some gathering in the works the same night as my birthday Jan 12. How sweet is that? |

Re: DRUMNBASS DANCE SCENE IS DEAD!?
One time at Adrenaline that dude Energetic was trying to do a flip move and he kicked me so hard in the head.
My dome was ringing the alarm, Woh OOOOHH, and I was trying to play it off.
He said he was sorry but I was like, man, MY HEAD!
Anyways, I hardly ever go out, but I did go out with Kem recently and there was a nice circle going.

Re: DRUMNBASS DANCE SCENE IS DEAD!?
PREFACE: iam not a breaker but i love the art and its relationship to our scene...
... very cool birthday lineup. I saw the title and felt like posting in this forum for one of the first times. I think it may be a reaction that has caused less dancers. I always loved the small breaker circles and pits that would develop at events. They add energy, sweat and pure fun 90% of the time. It may be that other 10% that causes a back lash against breakers. Many times, it would catch on that a spot was dancer friendly and a few weeks later tha entire dancefloor would be crammed too full of breakers for anyone else to function. At that point there is a backlash among non breakers to take back the dancefloor.
Just like any art movement, anything that becomes popular will eventually have a backlash (some morons call it "hating") And I think that breaking in clubs may have fallen victim to the cycle of art. In no way am i saying that there isnt a place for a dancing scene. I'm just saying that for every action there is an opposite reaction. Breaking may be in a lull period, but have no fear, we have a great base of dancers and the movement will reemerge. |

Re: DRUMNBASS DANCE SCENE IS DEAD!?
I will never stop poppin to jungle/drum&bass, even if I don't go out as much as I use too, but that is now changing too, hehe.
Hehe, I've been poppin to jungle when cats thought I was talking about tribal music here, hehe, no one had a clue what kind of music I was talking about, like 91/92. I had gotten back from Amsterdam where I chilled with a couple of cats that took me to an acid house party, heard them breaking up the beats all nutty, and I was hooked.
It seemed like poppin, especially waving and ticking, went perfect with it, like a great cheese that pairs a great wine.
To be honest, without internet like today, finding music like that to get down to here in LA was REALLY f**kin hard. I've dancing here since 1979, hehe, I'm 40 years old now, I've have seen LA mature its ears through the years.
I got a grip of music when I was in Germany in 95(I was team manager for Milk skateboards skate team), me and David Griffin(pro skater) ended up staying there for a month, haha, this one club was dedicated to jungle 2 nights a week in this small as town in Bavaria called Regensburg, an hour away from Munich.
Cats were trippin out on the poppin to jungle, they never seen it, they thought of that artform as breakdancing mostly.
Like I said, a great pairing.
The bass
The snares
All those hats ticking away
The JUNGLIST vibe
This music is GREAT for poppin.
I give credit to the different music that feeds my dance, that helps me create continuously. This music, and all its subgenerical terms, is just the right antidote for a dancer trying to create.
Props to all the DJ's that have saved my life, hehe.
Max, I might not of been out for a minute, but I still paint every street in this city as if my shoes were paintbrushes, you know!
Great seeing you the other night brutha!
RESPECT TOMORROW!!!!!
I'll be out a lot more now
