Lyn Collins' "Think (About It)" (not to be confused with the Aretha Franklin song "Think") has four huge beats in it. All of them have been done to death, including that one with the yelps that Rob Base and DJ EZ Rock used in "It Takes Two." Lyn Collins was a James Brown protege, and you can hear him shouting all over this track. James Brown was huge in the 70s, turning out tons of tracks with famous breaks. Of course there's the "Funky Drummer," "Payback," and "Funky President." And not to forget the JBs' "The Grunt," which pretty much set the Public Enemy sound. |

Ha Ha! I used to put mine on 45, but before I got it I even used to listen to Goldigger on cassette on high speed dub!
Yeah I agree from 94-95 if a jungle track didn't have an amen(I'd say about 85%), it most likely had a break from Lyn Collins-EVERYBODY samples the hell out of that song, not just jungle-lets see-
At least 3 bits of the intro were sampled in hip hop "Were gonna use what we got to get what we want"-???, "Sooooooo"-Bonnie & Clyde Theme/Yo-Yo & Ice Cube & "You better..."-???
The 1st was It Takes 2 with the "Whoo! Yeah!" break & the vocals
Goldigger by EPMD was the 1st I heard sampling the "Ya Bad Sista" break.
DJ Magic Mike(A miami bass DJ & Producer from Orlando) used Think in various tracks of his.
The part where it has the stabs & she says "Aw yeah.....Alright!" I've heard that in hip hop before too.
94-95 jungle tore it up pretty bad-you noticed most sampled it just saying 'Ya Bad Sista" some let the whole loop go "Ya Bad Sista See" & alot sampled the other break it sounds like it's saying "Louder"
What repress do you have? I got mine on an Ultimate Beats & Breaks
compilation, but the sound is real low!
Damn I remember when I first got that record, I was real drunk & the next day I was about to play it & my friend shouts, "You better think! about shutting that off." He told me I played it like 200 times the previous night! |
