Yo that room was hot, in every sense of the word. Bass was chest rattling. My only prob was that the grip tape flooring made it tuf to slide. I had a great time although at one point I turned around and saw a dude wearing some ribbonsuit with underroos that had some airbrushing on the rear. That image has been permanently burne3d into my retinas. |

ozo was mos def the highlight of my night! bassrush was coolthe music was pumpin, but the heat was too much to handle. I found this nice spot outside where there weren't a lot of people and i could still see the whole stage and got my groove on like hard. then others followed and got down with me outside. that was fun. i got there kinda late because of the ride situation, but i was happy to be there. saw some junglescene heads which was cool. oh yeah if anyone went to the house area kaskade was killin it! |

if you call mumbling over the set, not even letting 16 bars go by "contributing" to the vibe,I have to disagree. I would say it killed the vibe for me. Most people didnt go there to hear m.c.'s battle over d&b they went to see the dj's and actually HEAR the beats haha.
just my 2 cents, besides that the room was dope.

Was definitely the best thing I've been to this year...just incredible. The bass pod got really, really hot...I couldn't even go back in for POTD cuz it was just too damn hot. I thought the 3x MC's was cool, it didn't take away from the show at all. DJ Feelgood in the house room was insane, probably the best acod house I've heard in a while. All the DJ's out in the strip were crazy, I loved you guys! The I&I Sound System truck was great, raggae and hip hop was off the chain! And whoever was sitting directly in front of the bins at the AZ drum 'n bass crew's area (right next to the bass pod), I hope you can still hear...

I really made an effort to moderate the mc's on stage, I spoke with each mc and felt very comfortable with how they were performing. There were only two mc's pon the mic at any given time, they werent passing it on like it was a hot potatoe.
It was great...some like em and some dont but it wasnt BAD.

Re: EDC 2005
In my honest opinion!!!! I think drum n bass will NEVER EVER prosper for the simple reason that music that SELLS and makes MONEY revolves around the LYRICAL content of the song... Thats why people listen to rock, pop, r&b, hip hop or whatever they listen to.... Thats why they are on MTV CRIBS and we arent!!!!! Thats why they DRIVE SICKY RIDES, and we barely can get a few drinks at a party!!! People talk about support the scene, GO BUY SOME RECORDS THEN!!!!!!! For how popular dnb is, Record sales sure are shabby!!!!
The "main stream" wants vocals.. SO all the MC bashing goin on here in the jungle scene is PATHETIC in my opinion!!! I have said this before and will stick by it, A MC has just as much right to be on stage as the dj!!! And how can you say that it was too many mcs at one time for you!!! I know that Danny Johnson PERSONALLY keeps all that in check.. If they are up there, then they are MEANT to be up there.. If at the same time, then SOO BE IT!!!!! He wont let it be a MIC party on stage!!!! I havent ever seen a show of his where he doesnt regulate if s**t gets outta control.....
In closing!!!! MC's Are like Niggaz, WE AINT GOIN NO WHERE!!!!! WE are here to stay!!!!!! Sorry for the inconvience!!!! Maybe You can take up listening to TRANCE!!!! I hear they dont have mcs!!! |

no offense, but really i highly doubt the definition of 'emcee' that we see at shows has ANY commercial viability. the rhymes if even audible and annunciated are hardly catchy. i'm sure there are exceptions to this, but the common complaint is that there ISN'T.
now again, i won't comment specifically because i wasn't there, but if you're talking about growing this music's audience and expanding it into the mainstream, our current definition of emcee i don't think will accomplish just that.
in my own humble opinion, the emcee's who can say they are doing a bit something more to gather an audience would be someone more along the lines of dynamite, tali, and even conrad. they have more of the hook formula that will have people singing along and "remembering' songs so to speak, thus capturing an audience. i highly doubt this is accomplished by any two of emcees who simply spit a rhyme and pass the mic back and forth.
my own two cents. take it for what its worth. tired argument regardless.

Re: EDC 2005
mc hater? naw united Im FAR FROM IT. I just actually like to hear the beats. When did I say I hate all m.c.'s??? I grew up on hiphop that should say something. I am saying too many m.c.'s on stage is SOUNDS LIKE SHIT. plus most guys decide to spill out there whole rhyme book on stage and most people did not come to hear them, im sorry but its true. Like I said before, if you took away the drum&bass it wouldnt exactly be a def poetry slam or something haha. Drum&bass m.c.'s on a whole are far behind hiphop/dancehall m.c.'s IN MY OPINION and thats why YOU ARE NOT ON MTV OR A WACK BLINGED OUT VIDEO. And you are forgetting jazz in itself for the most part didnt always have vocals and it was huge in our grandparents/parents days so im not feeling you on that one either. People aren't always like oh so and so m.c. from L.a. is there, whoooopeee. Naw man there like f**king SS and Marcus Intalex is there etc.... lets not kid ourselves. Of course I dont hate m.c.'s, seeing as though I've been writing just as long as Ive been dj'ing. And I wasn't putting down the promotors of the room either.
It's weird how some people get all defensive over something they didn't even actually read, but rather what they built up in there heads......NO ONE HATES MC"S, but to many ruin a good show, fact.

^^^For clarity: what I meant was that music with vocals/lyrics is more commercially viable. With that said wheather it's good or bad depends on the emcee. Sum got skills while others lack it.
As for EDC...I honestly had a blast. Waaaayy too much fun. The jungle room was kinda hot but other then that I have absolutely no complains. All the jungle performances were tight as hell and I even got my poppin on cuz there were mad circles

imo, it is taboo to argue for MCs on the internet so this arguement every single time (unless u are Stevie "Hyper" D [rip]) is pointless. Again if 1 person hates u and one likes u, u are back at square 1 so it is just better to do what u want....
newayz...
From my vantage point, pictures that i have got/seen, emails that i got, thoughts from the nite ... EDC dnb room (cause i didn't leave it) was poppin'. Photek was my fav. but it was a nice touch to have the sounds of an Intalex and Dylan Tech Itch in the place also.... Hive's last tune was wick'd also *any1 know the name of it?* (missed Sam and most of POTD's set but i know they were killer) . . . . . .

The times have changed though, how much instrumental hip hop do you hear on the radio?
Some liquid funk/jazzy/atmospheric tracks might make it on stations like the Wave but I think the other styles need more of a hiphop element to become big in this country. And just about every big mc in this country is rooted in hip hop (tc izlam, sharpness, armanni, messinian, bypass, dre, xyz, etc. etc.) and its apparent in the way they flow.
On the largescale, I think the only UK mc's that can succeed musically are the ones who rhyme with clarity because Americans can't understand British slang very well and they also can't understand super-fast lyrics. |

i had an alright time, massives just arent the same anymore. I liked the bassrush stage at how sweet is alot better. I seriously hope people stop booking dieselboy, i dont care how good his mixxing is, that s**t is boring.
And on the whole mc tip, Its kind of annoying going to every bassrush show and seeing the same mcs. 1 main mc on stage is more than plenty.
Respect to all the old school ravers who still make this s**t happen, Its just sad that no matter how much people are into jungle, it just doesnt have that same underground vibe anymore. |

electric daises, strippers, pills and ballons
First, EDC was hell of a fun time...It has been years since i've been to that kind of massive. I had fun in strange ways that i didnt expect. Of course i danced my ass off (damn, my feet still hurt), but i had to keep someone out of trouble - but that was fun too. hehe I have also never seen so many ballons... yo BOB (inside joke)
I didnt get too much chance to check out the other music - unfortunatly...but i had a great time in BASS POD...I could have sworn pieces of the roof were coming off because of the massive bass thumpin that was going on it there...Excellent line up...
Ok, on the MC side point:
The mc, i dont mind...if i don't like it, i tune it out. but I think good Mc's are clear about thier place: they are secondary to the music.
The problem is, for years now, people have had this "scheme" that DnB will "make it big" by aligning itself to american hip-hop...well, I feel it's clear that this isn't working.. (imo, good, the last thing i want, is for dnb to be 'backing' music for some idoit babbaling on about 'my lexus, my bitches, bling...bling..." or some fool like brittney shakin her ass around to it - yuck. Also, I think MC's need to 'say something' you know? Maybe speaking to whats up - Say something that matters...And really, isn't the point to make good 'art'? - whatever that means...
blah

WTF!!!!
Everyone was on point that night, not to mention the crowd responded positively to every mc allll night, they tended to get a great reaction from their rhymes.
i knew someone was gonna talk s**t, its like a cuckoo in a clock, predictable like a motherf**ka

Re: EDC 2005
it's predictable cuz ain't no one bringing depth to the stage.
maybe i have greater expectations because i think LA can bring it harder and should bring it harder.
it's tiring to see the SAME MC's rhyme over DJ's that LA only gets to see a few times a year and not even giving the DJ his own time FOR HIS OWN HEADLINING SLOT!
WHY does it seem mandatory for MC's to be on stage ALL night?
how can you say the crowd responded to every MC ALL night? cuz i saw some people who were tired of hearing them and walking out.
these threads keep going BECAUSE people are tired of hearing mediocre s**t.
HAVE SOME MODERATION and GIVE THE STAGE BACK TO THE DJ's!!!!!!!!!!!!!

According to canoe ...
your dimensions are too abstract and you have once again MISSED THE POINT...
game over.

you act like you're bringing up a new point when you're just sounding like a broken record. i got your point many moons ago. it seems like you do this in the party review after every big party you go to. majority of LA d&b mc's make you angry, i got it bro.
this is a public forum meaning i have just as much right to say what i'm feeling as you do. and i think mc's are an integral part of the scene. i don't want to explain it anymore but i'm entitled to my opinions just like everybody else and i'm gonna leave it at that |

Re: EDC 2005
*i accidently deleted my post
it's not being an MC HATER it's about having STANDARDS!!!
when have you seen an upcoming DJ headline in the line up?? NEVER!! BUT how come you can catch an upcoming MC, MC-ing over a headliner's set with WEAK RHYMES? why is the standard different for upcoming mc's?
they don't even know how to project their voice right so people can actually understand what they are saying.
point...same s**t..weak rhymes...nothing new. people get all defensive and s**t when the point of these threads are STEP YO GAME UP MUTHAFUCKAS!!!! |

Re: EDC 2005
anyone remember when a dj was listed with an mc performing alongside them (andy C w/GQ, Ed Rush & Optical w/Rymetyme) whereas now the DJ's get their own listing and the MC's get their own listing, which pretty much means MC's on the mic all night. Just once nowadays it would be nice to hear a set through without an MC.
EDC was dope as s**t. Unfortunately the Basspod was way to loud and hot for me (I'm getting old). I caught Tech Itch, Intallex, and some POTD, but most of the night I spent in the house room. Ozomatli ripped s**t crazy. |
