The streets of Los Angeles are sweltering and the sounds of summer are echoing throughout the southland’s clubs and warehouses. Heavy percussion and lots and lots of bass is what you will hear in the underground this summer. With the boom of a new sound and the re-birth of a classic one, Downtown Los Angeles is proving to be the new hub for underground movements such as Dubstep and Drum & Bass.
Bluebeat first launched in 2002 at the famed Studio 56 in Hollywood. It was Hospital Records bossman, Tony Colman aka London Elektricity\'s first US appearance. 500 people packed into the small soundstage and a new perspective was formed. The motivation behind the event was to showcase the soulful side of D&B in a time where technical productions were dominating the dancefloors. \"We wanted to counterbalance things by producing parties that focused on soulful Drum & Bass music and stimulating the senses through multimedia applications\" explained Danny Johnson. \"From live video mixing by the best vj\'s, to some of the countries most infamous graffiti artists painting live. Bluebeat is intended to make a lasting impression.\"
Since the 2002 show, Bluebeat has appeared all over the southland, bringing D&B to fresh venues and to new audiences, raising the bar each and every time. Although its been 3 years since United has opened Bluebeat’s doors. This session is taking it back down under with Soul:R frontman, Marcus Intalex, who is currently blazing the trail with his soulful productions and dj sets, as our special guest. With the recent underground acclaim of Dubstep, Bluebeat adds the South London sound to the format. Bringing in Los Angeles pioneer and Smog resident, 12th Planet to the tables. Opening sets by Club Muse maestro DJ Phear and Pure Filth Resident, Tony K.
This production is a collaboration between United D&B, Project Sweatshop and Nonstop. Both PS and Nonstop are long time Los Angeles production crews responsible for some of the cities most groundbreaking events dating back to the early nineties. There recent collaboration at the Winter Fresh event held at LA Center Studios had 7,000 attendees and received high acclaim for its production value, props, and décor.
Past Bluebeat guests include: London Elektricity, Patife, Stamina MC, Fabio, High Contrast, Lee, DB, Spooky, Flight, Phear, Reid Speed, Pieter K, John Tejada, Danny Byrd, Klute, Big Bud, Atlantic Connection, Basic Operations, Spirit and Juju.

i was happy i got to play a bunch of music i don't normally play out.
Phear killed it! that diplo/naughty mash was sik!
Marcus Intalex gave everyone what they wanted to hear, runnin DnB, classics, and nu stuff.
dadzie came in with the big big sound and sent me home happy....
all in all a great return of Bluebeat!

Its been a while since Ive been rowdy on the floor of a dnb show - haha - but yea man, INTALEX proved it. Such a good vibe all through the night, throughly enjoyed everyones sets - sooo many old and new faces. great to see the new SMOG/SPECTR dubz! they looked hot
big up to Danny for pushing something you believe in. there were odds against you, but you pulled off an incredible night. venue looked great, production was big.
glad to be a part of the night - I had a lot of fun. |

Went from new to classic, awesome journey!
Phear's set was FIRE!!!!
So much energy in his mixes.
"Space between us" mix was wicked!
Was a treat seeing Mr. Fantastic in the spot aswell as all the females getting down in the circle.

I feel so blessed to have such great people around me. This event was everything I felt it should be, and seeing that we havent done one in a couple years, it was so cool to rekindle that flame, the feeling was exactly the same as I remember it.
The Bluebeat team is full proof.

The overall aesthetic reminded me of what "proper" means in regards to throwing a show in DTLA.
