EDC...F@CK INSOMNIAC

The weakest DNB room ever, had everyone dancing in the dirt and choking on the massive dust cloud that was being kicked up everytime a tune dropped. This was the worst planning I have seen by Insomniac in over 11 years of attending their top notch events. Insomniac cheated everyone out of 70+ dollars. They had a great lineup which could not be enjoyed due to the dust bowl...here's a tip: Get a f@ckn clue, DNB has the most intense dancing out of all electronic music and you put us in the dirt, f@ckn lame. BOYCOTT INSOMNIAC.

Haha! I had an absolutely WICKEDD time! The sound was even better than I had hoped for, and all DJs showed and played great sets on time.

I seriously have a big man-crush on Marky.

I don't know about the rest of the party, but the BassRush stage did not disappoint!

Sucks that the dancefloor was dusty, but that certainly does not equate to Insomniac failing!

Agree, the dirt bowl sucked...it was like that last year but was the cosmic meadow area so DnB heads didn't have to deal.

I would have suggested putting turf/carpet down over the most of the area, covering the dirt so us DnB heads could brock out to the fullest...know they have plenty of the stuff as they were using it in the main room.

Want to say that I still had a great time! The Bassrush stage most definately had the vibe the whole night Saturday. Sub Focus & Marky absolutely smashed it!!! Best two sets of the night!

i had a great time. maybe i'm going deaf but the sound in the dnb room didn't sound to be on point at all. There were glimpses of it during andy c and marky but for the most part it left me wanting. i couldn't get into andy's set as much...kept waiting for the hard hitting bass and...and..nothing. great sets though, i'll give everyone props on that...and i'll get flamed but set of the night was roger sanchez...whoa

I agree. Insomniac blew it this year. Weakest DnB stage in history of a massive. So freakin weak. Awful. Weak sound too. I loved the lineup however. About the only good thing I can say. O ya Dino, thanks 4 the swig of JD.

Hahah, I guess you can't please everyone no matter what you do. Ya know the dust wasn't great but the production that went into this party was off the chart. Planes flying with LED's, the decoration, fireworks, the stages, the talent. Everything was awesome. One of the best massives I've ever been to.

And honestly the dust kind've reminded me of the first EDC I went to in 2000 out in Tulare. That was all dirt no matter where you went, so it wasn't too bad at this party.

I keep thinking Insomniac outdid themselves and won't be able to top the previous year and they somehow manage to do it. Can't wait to see what's in store next year.

wow, saturday was a long day but such a great day of drum and bass, so many styles played. didnt really venture much outside the dnb area except to grab some drinks, i was stuck there with that line up. it was fun to play on that system, that rig was sonically perfect to play on. thank you bassrush for having me be a part of an amazing line up.

the dust was horrible, and without it, the party would have been perfect. But that was still the sickest weekend ever. I think maybe the bass wasn't perfect for some from where they might have been standing at the time, especially since it was outside. Everyone absolutely smashed it on Saturday. And all of us were blown away by Monsters of Jungle. Big ups to the Upbeats, Mayhem, SPKTRM, Demo, and of course DSL, Evol Intent, Dino and Messinian, and f**kin Ewun tha gun!

But yea. Don't ever put the steppin crew in the dirt again. Especially if you knew about it from last year.

didn't really venture to far from the dnb room, still cleanin' out muddy snot from my nose by far set of the night has to go to subfocus. i expected alot from andy c and only got bout 25%. friction was solid. marky was definately dope but wasn't feeling his entire track selection. subfocus from start to finished killed it. all in all it was a cool night can't take anything away from insomniac, it was easy to get in, crowded but not insane to move about, the dnb area was better last year in tucked in the lil' corner than on the dirt but ehhh. as far as massives go i'll give edc a strawberry blonde, it was okay

really if the dust is your complaint then go back indoors and stomp your feet on some cement and dont complain about it. because i remember a bunch of people on this site complaining about drum and bass being at nice posh clubs with over priced drinks and s**tty security. i think the dust reminded me of the old school days when people wore dust masks to actually keep the dust out of there noses. quit complaining and party.

that type mentality is retarded, I shouldn't shell out $100+ to huff dirt in my lungs for 12 hours. Would of been great if they used that same spot tucked on the side, that they used last year. I know what you're saying, but trust me man it was a constant cloud.

I drive 9+ hours and spend 300$ on a ticket and hundrends on gas for generators, sound rentals and etc. to breath dust for 7 days. belive me i know about spending money. i just think this thread is rediculous, quit complaining and party. its complaints and s**t talking like this that is killing your so called scene. Especially when insomniac is one of the only crews right now that are putting together a drum and bass line up like that.

so if i dont like 100,000 kids in beads running around on drugs then i wont go to a massive. even though it is the only place to see a dnb lineup of that caliber... pascual is indeed a junglist at heart! it shows in the jungle lineups every time. all top shelf, start to finish... so my review is... i didnt go so i dont have anything to complain about!

Just to clarify, I was not adding to the original poster's "f**k Insomniac" comment. It was the sickest drum & bass party I've ever been to. But, the dust was worth complaining about. There's no doubt about that.

yea the thread title is a bit too harsh it should be changed... but that line-up was insanely good definetly the biggest ever to hit cali, Insomniac does it right at least 99% of the time, nobody really comes close to there quality of production. i'm sure they'll address these minor complaints and fix it for next year... they always do.

but if anybody would like to party in the dust for free check out Boomstick on the 10th

Thats why i stood on the cement up front right side Music sounded great, no idiots bumping into me all night long. I had a great time!

And it was a treat to have Mental Sharp rockin the mic Saturday, yeeee!

Too bad I lost my camera, i had some pretty good pics from friday night. If anyone found a cannon with a bunch of Friday night dnb pics, fathers day pics and pics of my car.... have a heart and hit me up.

Now that i think about it, coughing up dirt for three days afterward reminded me of a s**tty desert party, eff that.






Hype killed it, dealt with the dust for his set...



What i'm talking about with the sound system was something i've heard before, when a tune dropped all i could hear from any point in the room was a loud fuzz noise from the bass , which was cut out a bit when the mc said anything into the microphone, seemed as if the soundboy might be having issues..

The tagging was lame, but honestly how did all those people get markers into the venue? Maybe the security wasn't doin' a very good pat down?

The sound issue was evident for some people. LTJ's set the sound was pretty good, but I'm sure LTJ requests a certain turntable set up in his rider hence the multiple deck set ups. So it might've been with the other set up being used?

I noticed the bass got kind've distorted and didn't sound right once Hype came on.

The drop out was done on the mic so that when the mc's would talk they wouldn't have to scream over the music. But the only problem with that is when a tune drops the mc talks and the bass and music lower, once he's done it blasts back in, so you have inconsistencies.

There should've been less of a drop out, but all things aside I still thought the party was great.

Maybe next year have a front of house engineer set up and a montior engineer to keep the sound crisp and maybe keep the Mc's signal from running off the main pa.

From experience on booking LTJ, yes..he has a very specific rider (or at least he did 6-7 years ago)

once I didn't comply fully..and I got an earful..but...I learned and next time had his sound to the T...

Shit, security went through my wallet at the VIP gate. I'm still wondering if that's legal.

Bassrush was bitchslapped into the field for some reason. And it's too bad, 'cause they had a killer lineup, awesome talent and great equipment. Everything but a comfortable place for the people to enjoy it. I thought the lighting was cool and the bass tickled my oldschool ears, but the setting sucked, especially compared to the amenities inside the stadium.

***NEWS FLASH*** Insomniac has changed the name of the drum and bass room for EDC 2010 from BASSPOD to DUSTPOD and they are giving out complimentary respirators in memory of the people who died from the black lung due to the poor planning of EDC 2009.

LOL THAT "RIOT" VIDEO BRINGS BACK MEMORIES FO SHO! cant remember what year but i know was frying and had a sheet in my wallet. the cops tear gassed the front entrance and the crowd dispersed, so I started walking around and next thing i know im jumping over a knocked over gate with barbed wire, man what a sight, atleast 6 people were caught in the barbed wire and being trampled, i ran straight for the main room and got in fine. My friends didnt however and i had to hitch a ride home with some chick i just met. Whoever that was, thank you! LOL oh yeah and i went to buy a mountain dew and gave the clerk my sheet of acid rather then money.... she was like.."ummm did you want this back?" LOL i hope she didnt start trippin from that one minute she was holding it.

yea, having the music ducked down by the mics definitely ruined the sound. the drops are probably at least 90% of what hype the crowd and get the vibe goin, and literally 90% of the drops were ducked down by an MC(who should be able to say something over a drop). the dirt is one thing, but that should've been sorted

Besides the dirt, this party was top knotch. Oh ya, that and Benny Bennasy having technical difficulties and having the coliseum shut down for 25 minutes, not cool. anybody catch the sumo wrestling outside of DnB during LTJ?? Madness. Thanks to Insomniac and Bassrush for puting on such a proper event. Cant wait for Nocturnal or another Bassrush event. Check out my videos people

EDC was absolutely amazing. Amazing sound everywhere cooperative security and great production. OK, so the DNB stage was in the dirt, WHO THE FUCK CARES! Nothing but pure talent on that stage and an amazing vibe in the crowd!

the dirt didnt seem to bother the thousands of people rocking out the whole night. it was easily avoidable if you didnt want to be there and still hear the music.

throwing events is no easy task, having an opinion is one thing, but the title of the thread and disrespect shown is just bad taste. i dont see electrojunglist throwing events of edc's calibre, actually, i dont see him throwing any shows for that matter.

some people complain that theres "no new spots" or some "amazing new venue" or this or that etc, but everytime there is a new spot that gets used it gets tagged up and burned. respect to the real artists/taggers out there who know whats up, its just a small few who ruin it for the rest of us and disrespect the spot. before scribing on mirrors and tagging up walls/bathrooms think about what its doing for the scene and music you love, is it really helping? or is it just destructive and ruining it for everyone else? promoters and everyone else involved put a lot of work into parties and most people just want to go out and have a good time. end rant ha

i think some people need to realise how lucky we are to have dnb like we do here in SoCal. there are places where they only get about 3 dnb shows a year and there are only 4 to 5 (sometimes less) local dnb djs in some cities. we have a very talented and consistent local scene with clubs and parties all the time, we have massive parties and line ups like edc every few months at the least. LA/SoCal is looked up to and i hear all the time how lucky we are and how good we have it out here.
