Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

ok...ill say it..

It was an average party, the 'rapture' vibe was definately not present for me anyways... there is no reason on gods green earth why friction should have opened for ed and op. ed and op played a set that ANY local here could have played, and at least the local could beatmatch. I heard MAYBE 4 or 5 new tunes in the hour.. and Friction Killed it.
The sound was not to par..

but we got to drink in the main room. Which was a plus.. except for the fact that there were beer bottles and glasses being spilled on everyone..

I wish i would have caught pats and the rest of nightstalkers set...

upstairs was tight all night..

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

I was let down calling the info line from OC at 10:30 to find out that Friction's set was just starting. But I was glad when I got there it was still going. I went to SD to see Friction cuz I've only seen him like once or twice before. He's not just some producer, he is a bomb dj! MC Questionmark kept it real for the ed rush/op set. I was glad for that. All in all I had a great time. But I'd have to agree with unit that friction was the real headliner last night. And I only got like 15 minutes of what I went for

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

thanks to the rapture/45psi for bringing the talent they brought to sd.....and in a 21+ environment so we could all be together and partaking if desired.

observation: does it seem that many of the people who are there are into the hype and really don't feel the music or each other? does it seem that if everyone's getting drunk, things get obnoxious and turn in to a pickup scene with people stepping on each others feet and running into anyone who happens to be trying to get their groove on? it seems so many people are oblivious to a "vibe"....

where was this show promoted?? cuz i felt and saw alot of dorks, sleazebags, and cheeseballs with no clue about vibe, respect, or rhythm for that matter. i'm sorry, none us is perfect but at least some of us are trying to be good people.

where's the love?

where was the SOUND? so out of character for the Rapture. does anyone know what the deal was?

and imo: when the sound is low, turn the mc's down (or off). all the mc's are talented but i felt they shoulda taken a minute to LISTEN too. shut the mouths down for a minute and see how the crowd reacts with JUST the music (really apparent during Friction's set; i so wanted to just hear his tunes!!!!!)....give them a minute and watch. are they (the crowd) getting into the music (what the show's all about) and feeling and hearing something more than just the mc's hype and cheerleading.
at a 21+ show, we're all adults. we all know where we are we don't need to be reminded "san diego" "virus tour" blah blah blah....also advertising in the visuals (45psi) is a no no. TACKY. aren't we being sold enough every minute of our lives w/out getting it from our funtime/entertainment too?
Shikaku does wonderful work....why f**k it up with logos!

Last nights show had all the opportunity to be a great event.
imo it wasn't.

what happened?

the one common denominator that it seems to me is responsible for most of the vibe killing (outside of the sound dilema)comes down to ego. Advertising, show-offs, over zealous mc's, etc...

it's hard to have depth and unity with a bunch of ego's and over indulgence.

basically i'm bummed on last night.

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

Thanks for your reviews. We had a blast!!! Seeing that many new people at a 21+ dnb party at Canes gives me mad hope for the future.

I agree that the quality of the sound was not up to 45PSI standards and believe me, action will be taken.

As always, thanks so much for bringin the vibe. Friction said this was a much needed experience for him on this tour and that we were far and away the best party he has played thus far.

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

I played records; I had a good time. I got drunk; I had a good time. I took pictures; I had a good time. I talked to my friends; I had a good time. I felt a VIBE, and I had a good time.

Someone will always hate, no matter what. But I know for a fact there were about 400 people in there last night who had a really f**king good time. And I was one of them.

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

Your set was wicked Pat, thanks man. I want to respond to one thing that Mandrake said in his/her post.

Our goal as a crew is to promote dnb to music lovers and dancers everywhere. We don't care if they are "dorks" or maybe a little awkward at first. We are not elitists trying to protect something that doesn't exist. We have something special and we have fun while we do it.

I'm sorry you were bummed on our show. Try as we may, we will never please everyone, all the time. Trust me when I say that we do try our very best and sometimes circumstances beyond our control hinder our efforts. We take all of these complaints seriously though and we will address them all.

We hope you will check us out in September for our Anniversary party. We are putting A LOT into it! *wink*

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

Honestly, I'm just disappointed that I didn't get to go, due to the fact that I'm not 21.

I've always had an awesome time at 45 PSI parties, and I'm gonna have to disagree with the comments about the repping the crews name in the visuals. I think it's plenty fine to do that, and I know that Steve at 45 PSI is VERY concerned as to the image of his team, and only wants to be the very image of hmm, I don't quite know the word to describe his artistic vision, but from sitting in on a promotion meeting of his, he is definitly going for a certain style that I believe he pulls off with perfection.

Props to the 45 PSI crew for the solid lineups, and like I've said before, I just wish I could have been there myself.

Oh well, April isn't too far away.

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

A pretty damn good show over all. it had its goods and bads, most of which have already been touched upon.

1. THE #1 gripe of all... MCs, shut up sometimes guys. I am not there to hear you. let me listen to the music. Good rule of thumb, if you have nothing better to say than, 21+up night, or the rapture w/ virus tonight, just shut up and step back. Sorry but it is true.

2. The lack of the under 21 crowd has a big impact on the vibe of the party, they just get down and enjoy themselves and make for a real good vibe. 21+ parties w/great vibes are possible, but rarer. Noetheless still a great crowd that got down. I still feel that even w/o the 21- crowd the party went really well, packed floors, up and down, and people going nuts.

3.The fact that every show the s**t gets shut off buy the stupid f**king owner and we don't get to hear the last track. Hey dipsht, it is 1:53 am, we got another 7 minutes asshat.

The goods...

1.Boos... more boos. The owner must have been happy about that, probably made some good money.

2.I danced like I did years ago. Haven't been able to flow like that for a long time, not since acid. And that is a no no for me now. And another thing after about 6 years of going to parties, I finally bought my girl and I some Spectr shirts. First time I had money left over at the end of the night lol.

3. I didn't have to see any of the wack bastids that bug the hell out of me at shows (people I know that take away from the scene, i.e. using it to be cool).

4. Friction held it down while we all waited for Ed Ruch and Optical (what happened anyway?). Great s**t came after he was supposed to b done.

All and all I chalk it up to the Rapture crew for another great night. You guys rule and I will be there again (like always) to support the dopeness in my home town. Keep up the good work and we'll be there in september.

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

I swear I posted on this thread, but my response is no longer there. . .so I will state my piece again. I had a good time at the show. I must say though. . . it was all about Friction. Even though he was a half hour late due to some complications. . . . I am glad that he exceeded his play time and ended up playing a longer set than Ed Rush and Optical. I always love seeing the two play.. ...but Friction is one of my favorite dj's. He is a nice down to earth guy and I am glad that he was finally brought out to San Diego. Cheers to Eddie

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

I had the BEST time, everything I could want from a party. Still smiling..... The vibes were awesome and up front you could really feel the bass. The drinks were cheap and I had money at the end of the night! Nightstalker ( thanks for the beer!!! ) played an INSANE set, bringing that dark, funky, and hard sound we need to hear more often. Friction brought it hard, and it was my first time seeing Ed Rush & Optical- they played some great funky tracks.

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

fyi- no hate intended, just honest blunt criticism meant to bring attention to the things that MAY need attention.

also fyi-unfortunately didn't get to hear nightstalker or menace, but under the sound circumstances i think the few hours i was there was enough for me for that night.

if we sit around cheerleading and applauding each other about an average event then we don't work to have phenomenal events and our scene is shallow, mediocre and short lived. please do not start calling "hater" each time someone voices their constructive criticism and sincere feelings.

that is why i started out w/ a thanks to 45psi because i know they strive to throw above average events.

i call out the dorkdom in hopes that open minded people may take a look around and see what we all can do to respect each other a little more; it's about observing your environment and honoring it. that's why i was so happy to leave cheezy pickup bars to enter the "underground" in the first place. i noticed a deeper vein. a certain respect and unity. perhaps it is gone now....i know there are those that know of what i speak. (also, if you weren't on the dancefloor trying to dance, but sitting on your ass you probably noticed less of the disrespect i'm speaking of)

i stand behind my feelings regarding the mc's and the advertising.

*i guess that's the difficulty w/ success too. the better you are the more people expect from you. you can either ride that glory and fizzle out or keep working harder and harder, getting better and better.

i feel pretty confident that the next Rapture will not disappoint if attention is paid to the things that do.

weird poll results- my guy friends had few complaints. my girl friends had more. my "softer" guy friends also were less satisfied.

that is all.

except thanks again to 45psi for puttin' in the time to bring s.d. good stuff.

exactly....MUSIC LOVERS AND DANCERS. i am not judging someone's awkwardness in learning to dance or anything like that. i'm referring to the fact as a music lover and dancer that there are many who are bouncing around apparently not really HEARING the music; doing aerobics, stepping on me and my friends' feet, repeatedly bumping into us, dryhumping each other and the such. i am a little protective of this "thing that doesn't exist"....i love real expression through dance to the music we love and i'm bummed when others are too busy being drunk and horny to respect the music and personal space or the fact that someone is "going off"; something you can feel if you pay attention.

i have no intention of being elitist...i don't claim to be the best dancer myself. i do however (even when i'm a little buzzed) try to respect the space and energy of those other music lovers around me.

thank you for your common sense reply. i'm just being honest. my friends that were w/ me concur on my concerns.

Mandrake, not everyone is going to enjoy the party the way you do. You are starting to sound like a constructive wet blanket. Ok, WE GET IT!!

Moving on, my feet HURT in the morning (rum/cokes wore off ...sorta...)! Friction's set was SHAKE-YO-ASS FRIENDLY
Sound: yes, 45psi's seen better days.
MC's: I would have loved to hear more of Friction, honestly. ...shameless showboating....

...and I had FUN, I danced til my feet hurt...

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

last night was awesome, screw the naysayers... to each their own and all that, but this is seriously my favorite dnb event in SD, i look forward to it every month. it was nice to spend time drinking mo' vodka-redbulls and dancing with some girls i work/worked with, and see some folks i don't run into that often due to being a hermit. the sound was definitely off, and the mcs DEFINITELY needed to come up for air alot more often than they did, but everything else seemed more than fine to me. maybe thats just cuz im new to the "scene" and the "vibe" in Cali and dont notice the same things as y'all, but i was lovin it. Friction KILLED IT good god I couldn't stop moving, and Ed Rush & Optical were... good, but I've seen them do much much better (just not in recent history).

next up.......... dj craze!

BIG FUCKING UPS TO 45PSI!!!! i thought the sound was bumpin, the vibe was 1000000x better than any other rapture i went to.. everybody was chill. that i saw.

FRICTION f**ked that s**t up hands down my god!!

XYZ was flowin on point all night.. that fool gets me mad hype! its nuts cause i most mcs lately just dont...and was that dre up there? f**kin it up too! bomb!!

Ed Rush & Optical were really cool too but they didnt quite keep my interest like Friction did.

UPSTAIRS WAS OFF THE CHAIN. BIG UPS TO DANIEL of JUNGLE RIDDIM. the vibe upstairs was so damn kickback and the selectas/dj's were spinning the tightest riddims/reggae/dancehall.

i cant even encompass it right now, just know i had a great time and thank you steve/45psi/daniel/jungle riddim for throwing such an awesome event.

Giving constructive criticism and being straight up is not being a hater ... it is called having balls.

I don't think 45psi is being put on blast but if the party wasn't up to par then people should be able to say so without ridicule. 45psi has thrown great events in the past and with that comes the expectations of their patrons. If the patrons were displeased with the event then by all means SPEAK UP! There are far too many sceanster pleasantries on here. Keep it real. *THIS COMMENT IS ON GENERAL RANDOMNESS OF THE INTERNET NOT TO ANYONE IN PARTICULAR*

i don't think anyone is calling anyone else a hater and if they do, big whoop itz the internet (don't take it so serious). u have the opinion to say what u want as does everyone else (live by the same rules) and u being critical of a party doesn't make u keeping it more real (nor does it mean ur a hater) nor does saluting what u think a good performance make u an ass kisser (or make ur opinion valid).

rule of thumb, i just always remember that 99% of people at parties do not post online (and even a fraction of that on js.com) so their views (good and bad) can only be expressed at the show, from what i hear, from the video i capture, from photos, from others video and what i personally hear.

That being said i had fun and i know many others did also!

*HOW DO U POST VIDEO ON HERE ANYONE???*

^^ it really is dumb.

from what i saw, everyone was going insane and smiling and having the best time.

thats why its weird to come on here and see people talk s**t. whatever. it was even CLOSE to sub par. it was well above average. i usually always find things wrong and to me, this was outstanding.

but you know what... steve... its really only 1 or 2 people out of those that are talking that s**t. that is less than a HALF percent of the attendance.

show satisfaction rating 99%.

that night was better than 18+ thats fo damn sho.

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

I was drunker than a skunk dipped in moonshine and had a blast in my own little world ... was great seeing Kingpin out and about with the whole family - what was up with that? We never see your ass out anymore! Lots of other familiar faces and d&b familia - all the djs killed it from what I can remember - was hard to get the sound dialed in right on the monitors so don't be too hard on them/us for pushing the frequencies or gain and mucking it up on the floor - but the vibe was thick - upstairs was off the chain! - some sweet dub/reggae when I rolled on through - overall I (personally) had a solid good time and have no qualms with those who thought it could of been better - everyone is always entitled to their opinions.

and that's on the real ...

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

Someone in Mission Beach fired a gun into the air around Midnight and the cops were there in seconds. They took it very seriously and closed off the road leading out until they had all of their suspects in custody. That was the reason Ed Rush & Optical were late getting inside the venue. On weekends there are a lot of cruisers out and the cops and Canes security patrol the lots constantly during the evening. That's why they were able to respond so quickly and detain the guys who were f**king around.

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

I had a great time, I always enjoy 45psi events, this one is no exception. The only thing that could have made my night better was if I left my slobby drunk friend at home. But other than her antics I had a great time. I love Cane's, it's a great venue. The line up was great, I saw some friendly faces... good times were had. Friction was amazing, and so was Mr. Nightstalker. Thanks 45psi! =0)

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

WORD.

I wasn't at this Rapture due to reasons out of my control. I have been to others in the past, and know what is capable.

The issue at hand is alot of the ass kissing, and the threads of hating on people who have opinions that don't fall in line with the majority. I will say this about reviews or opinions on JS. It seems that if you don't agree with the masses, you are a naysayer and your opinion is not vaild; then your identity is demanded, or you are a called a loser. Everyone's opinion is valid, whether it be good or bad. People shouldn't post a thread asking for reviews or post pictures if they are not prepared to have them reviewed or judged.

Everyone knows how hard people have worked to put on parties. Obviously someone who says "It sucked ass", might not be a a valid critique. This thread there has been some well thought out reviews.

I know how hard it is to put your heart and soul into something, just to have someone say it didn't meet their expectation. You can get a million people saying they loved it, but you will remember the one who didn't.

**********
According to melicious ...

EXCUSE ME!!!!!?????

My "insight" has nothing to do with your party it had to do with being able to speak your mind on JS.

Which I just did and in turn was ridiculed for.

Thank you. I appreciate that.

**********
According to 45psi ...

More great insight by someone who was not there. The party f**king rocked and over 400 people had a great time and thought the same thing.

**********
According to melicious ...

Communication is what JS is for and there is no doubt in my mind that whatever was wrong with The Rapture this time will be fixed for the next one.

Re: THE RAPTURE...FRICTION_ED RUSH_OPTICAL

well my review, i guess: in short, i was disappointed. and for the wordy version...

in my mind, The Rapture (along with Respect and Bluebeat) is at that top level of dnb events in Southern California- well put together and produced. as a punter at these events, you never have to worry about the 'little' things: talent not showing up, venue getting shut down, speakers blowing etc etc.

faced with the new challenge of an 21+ only crowd, obviously this was a tough one. the people were there and loving it, but i didnt get the same vibe as i've felt in there before. the sound did really affect my experience for a large part of friction's set. and the MC's, well.. those are our MC's. a bit much at times, and despite that they are both my friends, i stand by that.

friction didn't bring his *A* game. it was a good set, yes. and fun. but as a fan AND friend of his, i know that's not trademark friction we heard on saturday night. (and yes, he knows i think so). having friction play relatively early is not what he'd like, what i'd like, what WE'd like, or what 45psi would like.. but it is what it is.

perhaps he didn't want to outshine Ed+Op? maybe he wasnt really feeling it, or maybe he was tired from touring. who knows. his set had its moments, but i think that Odyssey, Another Planet etc etc (did i hear Screamer?).. are best-saved for Scooba, who does a great job with it, rather than arguably the world's best upfront dnb dj. if you heard his set on 1xtra from Brighton in February, you'd have recognized a lot of it.. minus some of his trademark trickery!

his set seemed disjointed towards the end, when it was unclear whether he was done or had 1 more or then another 1 more, or 10 mins more etc. i'm glad he got to play longer, but i suspect he would've displayed some of his wizardry had he known what to expect. i, meanwhile, was silently hoping that he'd be on until 2... !

it's a *good* thing that The Rapture has developed a reputation which allows us to take some of the small things for granted.. but hiccups are inevitable. i drove down from Newport to hang out with Mr Friction and to watch him tear SD a new one. 1 out of 2 ain't all that bad.

i look forward to the 2 year anniversary party!
