what u hate most when making tracks?

as for me..

when I got an idea for a track, then later, once i've turned on my equipment... the f**king idea is gone.

or worse...

when im working on a track for about 4-6 hours straight... and i have it done. the next morning when i hear it.. it sound's like pure s**t then all i do is just say "doh" and then dump it in the recyleing bin.

isn't that the best part ...knowing that you can like or not the next day???? I always know when something is right if after a few days I'm still feeling it as when I heard it first....just follow your soul...and it will know!!!

that's one thing...but when you think that the track you are working on is promising as hell, and you are just bumping your s**t all night. then, the next day... you hear it, and ...are like ..f**k. this is just pure shyt.

then it's in the trash.

i hate it when i hit points where no idea sticks i just keep making a lot of songs and no idea is worthy. but then theres that ONE time when it all clicks

i hate it when i have two good parts of a song, but just can't find a good transistion between the two no matter how much i try.

The 2nd thing i hate is only being able to work on a a track for about 20 min. at a time. If i work on it any longer than that and my ears lose their reference, and that's when i start making changes that sound good then...but don't the next day.

Oh, and sound card issues, and OS issues and s**tty Reason exports.

I hate when you've got something decent going, but you can't find that last element that will really finish it off. Bah.. humbug!

i find myself getting caught up just making loops, and never actually getting down to putting s**t together, i cant find what i need to blend it all togetgher....argh!

the feeling when your music kinda feels like work, like you feel you have to get something done. i can never get s**t done when i feel pressured by myself, somedays it just happens and theres a track.

making music should never feel like work, unless you are privelaged enough to be getting paid for it!!

I've always noticed that if i work on a track like right before heading out of town to a party or on a road trip, i can pump out a toon in no time.

i hate not getting the mix to sound crisp and clean.. i dont have decent monitors so i try to rely on comparisons and spectral analysis..

i want my s**t to sound proper.

a really good vocal or melody that has too much s**t behind it for me to use.

getting that perfect synth sound, just before deleting it accidentally.

getting a really good groove going on my sampler, only to have it crash before I saved it.

shyt... not having all the tools for the trade. there is so much stuff i want..and i wan't it NOW!!!

but instead. i have to save and work to get them. then by the timei got em' my origional melody is long gone.


oh and yeah... girlfriend interruptions.

oh, and not getting my shyt to sound like it was done by a professional, (which i would pay a professional, only if i had the $$$ for it), and also...

I dont know if this will help you or not, but what I like to do is keep a note book with me at all times, and if I get an idea I write it down in as much detail as possible, that way when I get back to the studio
I can always recall the exact way I wanted to lay out my track.. But honestly everyone has their own way of doing things, & remember if you feel like its not working for you then just move on to something else, Not to sound sentimental or anything, but its kinda like love, you cant force it to happen if was not there to begin with.......

what i dislike most when making tracks is getting stuck.

writer's or "producer's" block is the worst.

I think probably the hardest thing for me is really creating what's stirring inside versus being overly influenced by stuff that I like.. because I've slowly realized, they are two completely different things. While I like a lot of stuff... it really sounds nothing like the stuff I create... sometimes, that alone, makes me feel like I'm going in the wrong direction, when really I'm not (or at least I don't think so.. haha).

id also have to say is...

other ideas in general... ya know, when you have that hook, or intro, or whatever... and you are just about to lay it down. right before you can set the plan in motion.. another idea hits, then you forget about your origional one at first...

dammit... why don't they just wait their friggin turn!!!!

Not like I know what I am talking about when it comes to producing d&b but its all music anyhow... when I get riff ideas for guitar or vocals I always have a dictophone handy... you know those little s**tty hand recorders that people use for interviews, just hum your ideas right into it... but back in the day I use to call my voicemail and hum out my ideas into the phone... hope that helps

spending 2 hours tweaking a tight beat on my jx305, then realizing i dont have enuf memory to save it and i dont want to delete any of my old s**t, then having to go in and take out tracks, steps, shorten the loop to make it fit on my card . . .dammit i need a new memory card.

also the damn plug comes out of the wall when im mamking something new, destroying hours of work.

+ f**ken latency issues on the pc (more related to my live show . . .)
