What is EVERYONE using to make their tracks?

I've done work with a few different programs, mostly Digital Performer though, and DP kinda sucks for D n B!
I've never really had the opportunity to work with some really good equipment (reason) etc.

SO...I'm wonderin what people are using because now i have access to a G4
What makes the ILL tracks????

construction done on reason or sometimes acid, sample editing on sound forge, mix down on cubase sx and occasionally logic...

im pretty sure you could make a sick track with digital performer if you really wanted to. ask not what to use ask how to use it. and even then thats sorta hard because some part of it is developing your own approach.

oh s**t i forgot my generic answer.....yeah logic, cubase, fill in the blank sequencer people swear up and down about, kill children over and start holy wars with.



i use a f**king toy to do what i do and im happy with the results. benjie uses old s**t and the dudes on black sun empire records. get my point?

The stuff I use the most is...

Reason 1.0 (ugh...when I can actually stand to boot into OS 9...I need to get Reason 2.5)
Rebirth 2.0 (ditto above)
Peak 3.11 (processing)
Deck 3.5 (multitrack mixing)
Spark XL 2.8 (effects)
SynthTest (freeware MIDI host!)

P.S. - I'm using all this on a 867MHz G4 and it's all gravy

yo i totally understand, Benjie was explaining what he uses to me and i was like huh? Its crazy because he makes dope ass tracks!

Maybe i should ask... where are the dope samples/sounds coming from?? Does it depend on the fx you use to alter it??

When I used Digital Perf. it was hooked up to a "Sound Canvas" and a D-110; too many cheesey sounds
Do these other prog. work like that too?
I would love to see benjies set up!

all i know about that benjie cat is that he likes to use as few effects as possible....and focuses on the whole eq aspect. its possible to use what ever. i mean seriously look at all the old electronic acts...they used s**tty gear and made brilliant stuff(the old no u turn stuff comes to mind....hey even the new no u turn was made on basic stuff)q

its just how well you know your stuff....period. there are limitations, dont get me wrong, but most of them are with the artist not knowing the gear.....

as for me, I use toys too:
Fruity Studio, Acid 4.0, SoundForge 6.0, Recycle, Clean

and I get all my sounds from samples or my Yamaha RM1x drum synth.

depends i guess, out here in japan ive been using my friends little baby set up with fruity loops 3 and soundforge, and JUST headphones and im doing ok, it feels weird haha NO DOS!

but yeh, just use whatever feels right! or DOS! hehe

Hey does anybody else use Ableton Live? I have version 1.5 (I know they;re up to 3.0), but I kinda don't how to use it as well as everything thing else. It seems like a simple interface, but I haven't spent a lot of time with it yet.

protools, peak, and sample CDs for now. no midi hooked up yet. tryin' to use absynth & other soft synths but i haven't figured out how to get them to work w/ protools yet...

yeah DP is a pain in the ass to program beatz on... but possible..

if anyone wants to suggest any programs to make basslines on for mac or pc i'm all ears.

seq in mpc, midi to triton,and motif and whatever else is around . tracking to prt tools or digital perforemer the plug ins on both are . / adrum machine and a cheesy keyboard w. whatever it all comes together in the end

Hey whats up with Ableton Live???
I just got that and it doesnt make sense yet (Ive only played 10 minutes with it-but usu. I can get something up and running in those 10 minutes-What are the benefits to using this? Can it be applied to live PAs? I guess thats what its supposed to do.

Concerning software, I only use flstudio with a bunch of VST and DXI plugins and Wavelab to master. But Im missing something here, why does everybody have a their whole list of progs when what im using suites me fine? I mean I only use two progs hmmm....
