Re: Control Surfaces...
not a surface
just a plain old midicontrol keyboard w/ 12 knobs + i use the pitch bend/mod/selection dials as controllers too. it was cheap, but its lasted me a long time and works like a charm.

Re: Control Surfaces...

I love my Tascam US 224. It works great with Cubase SX. It definitely helps speed up my editing and mixing processes. Plus it's got 24bit 96khz inputs to record into |

Re: Control Surfaces...
I had a mackie control for a while, I ended up not using it as much as I thought. The automation always had to be mouse edited afterwards, and I have the rest of the controls on there as keyboard shortcuts.
Personally I think its redundant gear, and the money could definitely be better spent on other stuff |

Re: Control Surfaces...
Whaaaaa???
You mean your automation passes didnt translate into the software correctly? What good is a controller then? I thought Mackie was one of the better models? |

Re: Control Surfaces...
its definitely not realtime, and that was with a high end midi interface...(edirol m8-somethin or other)
Overall mackie is definitely top of the line, maybe not their control surfaces though..
Mine actually busted temporarily, the controls stopped working and the display slowly dropped out...luckily mackie's service dept. is world class, I had my unit back home working perfectly within a week....
The thing is really really fun to use, but if you're getting it because you think you need it, you might be disappointed |

Re: Control Surfaces...
Thats nuts.
If automation can't be realtime then what the f**k is the point!?!? Aren't surfaces supposed to give you hands on control of realtime functions? |

Re: Control Surfaces...
automation rocks, I just wasn't satisfied with recording it, so I return to the mouse once again. that could totally just be me tho....
there's always the possibility that I'm totally trippin..so you should still try to get your hands on some of the control surfaces and see for yourself. Maybe you'll like em |

Re: Control Surfaces...
I have never used a control surface that was better than a mackie unless it said SSL or Neve on it (used with pro tools on a G4). The trick is to assign enough of the knobs to eliminate the mouse. If you don't think a control surface is the way to go, try a theatrical size screen with the mouse, much less scrolling and faster than regular 1.33 to 1 aspect ratio. 2 cents

Re: Control Surfaces...
They are much needed only when recording in multi-tracks. If your're using them to just mix down a track you made, you'll probably barely even touch it.
I'm planning on picking up the 24-track Roland one soon. |
