Re: Noisia reveals the secret to their bass
It's tough for me to tell if they're joking or serious (the video is obviously in response to the thousands of posts online asking "how do I make a Noisia bassline?")...however, it makes sense, like how horn players can use rubber dampers to affect their tone...the cup effectively acts as a cheap low-pass filter with the angle of the cup raising or lowering the affected frequency range. You could imitate this without the cup, but the cup probably adds some unique reflections to the sound. |

Re: Noisia reveals the secret to their bass
don't get me wrong...their sound is prolific and i am into it. i do play their stuff and i respect all the hard work they put into their production. but the lot of their stuff lacks soul. it's purely sound design. sometimes i think they go a lil overboard w/ all the edits. just b/c you can do something doesn't mean you should. the same goes for liquid type tunes but just the opposite. they may have a rich vibe w/ warm melodic tones and a more musical structure but the mixdown may not be so good. too many people sweat noisia like they are doing something soo different from anyone else... like their techniques are radical. it's basically the same methods that stakka and skynet were doing except w/ way more layers and incorporating their own foloey. they could have used that sound they made in the video in a bassline (i read the q+a on doa...) but they dont just run that into a sequence and call it a bassline. it takes a lot more work than that. they were kinda kidding...

Re: Noisia reveals the secret to their bass
Some dnb producers these days have tunes done in weeks. They take months to make sure all those edits are the exact way they want them. I feel noisia is one of the only artists that are making drum n bass sound the exact way they vision it. I understand the soul part of your argument, but i can feel it dep down in there tunes. It has a subteranian(sp?) soul within the tunes that i connect with. Im just a tech freak and they do it perfectly for me everytime |

noisia rules... there basslines growl like my rottweiler. I can't get enough of that s**t!!
but yea, i think they were joking with the video. sure they can use that sound in a track, but it's not the "secret to their bass" |

Re: Noisia reveals the secret to their bass
noisia is never serious in any of they're interviews...they bust me up.
they might use that setup to get different effects...the hollowed into a glass effect...lol
they are excelent musicians and manipulators of sound weither that is really what they do or not
its all about getting danked up and see where the creativity goes...
i seen an interview where they were blazing the whole time and talking trash on eachother...
like that DNBTV doc on them...A+++
