DJ Mix question
Is advertising your dj mix in the producing forum a good idea? yeah or naw. seems like the wrong place, unless however you tell us the process in which you recorded it or something. but hey what do i know.
so, What is your process of recording mixes? for example, 2 CD turntables into a mixer, into your computer's sound card, into sound forge. I know Jo-s still uses dat. |

Re: DJ Mix question
I use a seismograph...then I use my scanner to scan the wave form from the seismograph into the biggest picture ever. Then I wrote a custom program that takes in seismograph output (in .bmp format) and converts it to pure sound. I find the best sound comes from recording from my seismograph onto 2000 year old egyptian papyrus. The bass comes out much more solid.
nah...just the way you described above. only after i'm done with the mix i'll take the whole track and bring up levels of low tracks and do some eqing here and there when needed. |

Re: DJ Mix question
Whatever happen to recording straight to tape?
It's all about making copies of a copy over an old mix, and then dupicating to the max.

I just drag all my stolen mp3's from soleseek into Pro tools. Then I bring up my "Auto DJ" plug in and use the "phat jungle mix" preset. This selects the best tracks and mixes them for you. |

Re: DJ Mix question
sometimes i get super primitive and use two soup cans tied together w/ a line of string. on one end i put the speakers up to the can and on the other end i put a microphone which goes to my rig.
ohh wait a min...
at first i was joking as i typed this but considering all the ghey hype the nausea boys have been getting w/ their sampling, maybe i should really try this..lol. |

that'd be like....*coining a new phrase* the alabama plug in: the filter version. you would turn down the frequency by making the string shorter so that less energy dissapates down the string and thus less of the frequency is lost.
what other 'alabama plug ins' could there be? how about this...make a stand up bass with surgical tubing tied to a broom stick and the end of a bucket....but then place the player inside an outhouse so the bass resonates. this is the alabama bass maximizer. |

Re: DJ Mix question
seismograph? pssshhh! i draw my waveforms with mechanical pencils. i compile a mix into a book (usually about 3000 pages or so) and have it bound in the flesh of an OD'd candy raver.
then soak the book in the tears of 1000 angels for 333 days. on the last day i remove it from the tears, dry it and scan every image and convert the waveform to sound.
...then i grab a bunch of records i dig, play them in succession on two turntables and alternate between the two with a mixer, all the while recording directly into cubase, and bounce down an audio file of the recording.

Re: DJ Mix question
I usually just sing the basslines to people when they want a demo of what my style sounds like.
Whats this re-cord-ing you guys are talking about? Is that when you fix teh string between your two soup cans after it breaks?
------------------------------------
Usually I record into Audacity, cause I like a good gamble and its easy to use when it works right.
Does anyone else miss cassettes? Obviously there's options with way better sound quality and ease of use, but I miss two-half-hour-side-do-two-mini-mixes-or-one-long-one format. Anyone else? |
