In your studio what do you consider to be your weakest link?
What is the piece of gear you own that you 'hate' or you just think 'man I soooo need a new _____'?
For me it's my microphone. I just have a shure sm-58, and I've been recording vocals on it for a couple projects, and it sux! I bought it to play sax live with and so I know it sux for recording vocals, but it's all I've got haha. I've given up and have been just doing scratch tracks on it, then after arrangement, recording vocals at an actual studio.
I'm not satisfied with anything I get out of it (even after processing the HELL out of the vox). I would seriously LOVE my current setup if I just had a better mic...and a new dj mixer(mine is alllmost broken)...ok and I need a cdj cause my old one broke...ok a laptop would replace all that, so maybe one of those hehe. |

Jeff I highly recommend you purchasing one of these mics.

For the price it can't be beat. Normally they are about $100, but eBay is hooking it up lately on these guys.
I have 2 of them in my studio, and use them for everything from Vocals, to Drum Overheads to Acoustic Guitar.
They really are pretty nice. I actually bought mine straight from the company who makes them Pacific Pro Audio, for twice the price.
So I would say give it a try. |

Re: In your studio what do you consider to be your weakest l
coolest sidechaining plugin ever (well it's a sidechaining emulator) is called the Sidekick
http://www.digifreq.com/digifreq/download.asp?ID=86
suuuuper easy to use, no setting up send channels or anything. just 2 plugs on inserts of the two channels you're working with!!! |

Re: In your studio what do you consider to be your weakest l
sadly.... true.... 1 tune in 6 months.. 3 in the last year.. zero inspiration and going out in this city is beyond the word "joke"... i havent heard a system/rig at a party since i came back to play in april last year in sd.
however i am just working on sounds only and i made the illlllllllllllest snares and kicks and reeses..... just cant do s**t with em.. hopefully some inspiration comes when i get to see my jungle riddim family next month for the party im throwing :D :D :D (and yes, its that bad here that I have to throw a party to hear tunes on a system)
im glad we are getting out of this state this year and getting back to cali.. florida has utterly drained my creativity!!!

Re: In your studio what do you consider to be your weakest l
My studio itself, because it isnt a studio at all, its my beadroom! Between the s**tty acoustics and my neighbor upstairs complaining for every noise that comes out of my monitors, it really slows the production process down! |

Re: In your studio what do you consider to be your weakest l
the one thing that was f*ng me up in the studio for the longest time was my XBox.....srsly...lol....
First I moved it out of the room, downstairs, then into the basement, then out the door to the Disc Replay shop down the way a bit. I had to sell that little bastard. lol
What I'd really like, now that I've moved the ultimate distraction is some new monitors. I've been using the same ones for about 6-7 years and they aren't really good for producing. I love them for spinning in the studio, but they're absolute s**t for mixing a tune down. |

Re: In your studio what do you consider to be your weakest l
for me it's not running under windows ona pc which means i dont have access to the plethera of FREE software / plugs u pc geeks use. bummer consideruing i still cant do sidechaining in cubase b/c there is no plug in available to do it. i guess my soon to be downfall is the e the downtime that will ensue as i painfully undergo the learning curve when it's finally time to learn logic. other than that, it's never having a flat room. i usually get stuck writing in my headphones which aint good for my ears. |

Def my roomate and neighbors.
I wish i had a house SOOO BAD!!!
I love my yama's but they sure dont.
Producing on headphones always make me go def by the end of the night.
Cant wait till i get one then have a room dedicated to being a loser. |
