SERATO and the eee!

Does anyone know if serato will run on one of those mini eee computers from asus? They are like $300! I know they come w/ linux or whatever but I would just load winblows on them anyways.. Any help or experience would be appreciated!

Re: SERATO and the eee!

not sure...the windows specs for serrato are as follows:

Windows

* 1.5 GHz PC
* 1 GB RAM
* Windows XP with Service Pack 2 or higher
* Windows Vista requires Versions 1.7.2 or higher
Note that we recommend Windows XP over Vista for performance reasons. By using XP, you can have a lower latency (for a better vinyl feel) and better performance in general.

The EEE specs don't seem powerful enough to meet that minimum though....

Processor 900 MHz (factory underclocked to 630 MHz) [1] [2] [3] Intel Celeron-M ULV 353, fan
Memory 512 MB/512 MB/1 GB DDR2-667 RAM (2G/4G/8G)
Media 2/4/8 GB flash memory
Graphics Intel UMA
Display 7.000 inch (diagonal) TFT LCD with LED backlight; 800×480 pixels (pels)
Power 4 cell 4400 or 5200 mAh battery
Input Keyboard
Touchpad
Camera (Optional)
Microphone
0.3 megapixel video camera (4G and 8G models)
Connectivity 10/100 Mbit Ethernet
802.11b/g wireless LAN
3 USB 2.0 ports
MMC/SD card reader
Operating system Linux Xandros, others possible

my guess would be no. but better to let a geek answer on it. i have a feeling it won't but i dunno.

Re: SERATO and the eee!

no. i don't think they would even nearly be fast enough to run serato.

Re: SERATO and the eee!

Dell has an inspiron 1525 for $499 that would run it....

http://www.dell.com/content/products/productdetails.aspx/inspnnb_1525?c=us&cs=19&l=en&s=dhs

but you'd need to reinstall XP instead of vista. vista is utter utter garbage (and the reason for returning my dell because i didn't want to pay for XP and didn't have a disk). but its not very much more and it is a beefier computer comparatively speaking.

Re: SERATO and the eee!

Haha, I thought this thread was going to be about the high-pitched eee sound of the timecode on the control records.

Re: SERATO and the eee!

I have an EEE and and it will not run natively since it has a resolution of 800x600. Serato needs 1024x768. There's a hack out there that let's you bump up the resolution. Here's the link: http://themodshop.net/?p=25
I just installed the hacked drivers out last night and its kinda hard to see me typing right now. all this of course running XP. The EEE should handle Serato with upped ram.

Here's the result from another user:

Re: SERATO and the eee!

BTW I would not recommend playing out with this. Installing Live, however, KILLS AN MPC!!

Re: SERATO and the eee!

honestly, vista slowed my machine down entirely too much. i never tried to run serato on it, being that it didn't seem to like running MS Office 2007 on it without crashing (after countless reinstalls). I've yet to meet anyone with anything positive to say about windows vista.

Re: SERATO and the eee!

You can run it with less than 1GB of RAM. I've run it on a 256MB laptop and it worked OK.
