Music schools????

I want to set serious about music in my life and would love to hear about any programs any of you have had the enjoyment of being a part of.
I work full time and live in orange county so maybe some weekend corses might be best or night clases.
Any input would be greatly appreciated.

Ive been to the SAE institue and talked with Ryan a bit, that would be my optimum choice as far as what i know so far.

depending on where u are at in your learning cycle has alot to do with what school to go too.

Long Beach City Collegae has a good coarse for the intro producer

Maybe take one of ryan Origins classes at LARW

Citrus College in Azusa/Glendora has one of the best Recording Technology Programs around. Of course they are Block Courses, I'm not sure if they offer night or weekend blocks now. I attended several years ago. It's a bit far from Costa Mesa but it is phenominal! You should visit. Not that it matters but I went there. So, it is first hand knowledge. There are a few prerequisites and you need to be accepted into the program.

Not sure how it compares to Ryan's school price wise but I've been instructing there for about 6 months and its pretty chilled out. Steve Miller ( director of education ) is one of the most laid back persons i've met and it trickles down to all that work there. I know for my classes I give students about 20 minutes of knowledge talk every day, then they have about 3 hours after that to run an actual recording session. I only step in if they are totally stuck or right before they're about to blow something up lol. but for the most part its very laid back, fun atmosphere with genuine down to earth people that are eager to passdown the skills and shoot the s**t about real world industry situations

unfortunately i never had the time to have a proper education on musical production. i have read quite a bit and have been fortunate to converse with people i consider to be at the top of their game. here is a great book imho.

That Bob Katz book is amazing, i reread it every 6 months or so and it feels like a new book.

However, unless you are seriously deep in music production, stay away from that book, it can be very intimidating.

I bought that book and read it over my winter break last year...it really did help a lot with the way I understand recorded sound. It's definitely technical, but that's exactly the kind of explanation I was looking for.

I go to LARS and its a really good school. Been going for about 5 months now and have learned far much more than the years ive just bulls**tted around reading articles and learning by myself. I go there part time and it works out really well for me. Its a 12 month program and I have two four hour lectures during the week, from 8pm to 12pm and then one 8hr class on saturdays. I highly reccomend it if you are serious about becoming a sound engineer or want to pursue a serious career in music studios or post production facilities. If you just plan on just making beats and trying make better dnb then its kind of waste IMO tho. All the instructors ive had are very laid back and know their s**t.

Wow I took a tour of LARS in July and let me tell you... The place had me in awe. I felt right at home as a musician, the atmosphere cant be beat school wise, and everyone seemed so laid back. Im excited to start the part time program in September so... Ill keep in touch with you guys on here fo sho.

Yea have heard nothing but GOOD things about LARS! I even went for there free tour and almost went but at the time got too busy and didnt register + it is a lil costly... but if cost is an issue!!

OCC in costa mesa offers a great MIDI class featuring CUBASE and ive taken the class twice... and have learned a great deal! The teacher is way mellow and you get a lot of hands on experiance!
ALSO... they have a recording Tech class which teaches... PROTOOL LE HD!!
And that is an awesome class as well if your looking to take your skills and your studio to another level!!

Have also heard, believe it or not, CALstate FULLERTONon having a great recording program which then you get not just a 'CERTIFICATE' but a B.A. in Music/Sound Recording Engineer!

I went to LARW, and it was a great experience though a little rushed. I had wished the sections on MIDI and ProTools were more in depth. I myself am looking for a focus group or someone to practice with. I think collective information sharing is the key.
