What sequencer are you using?
I'm Logic Pro 8.
Things I like:
-The Interface
-The bundled plug ins
-Automation
-Channel Strip settings
-Sculpture
-session file backups (not auto save)
Things that are total bulls**t and make me want to move back to Cubase:
-Corrupted sessions
-automation randomness like sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't
-the f**king crashing
-Instruments not being saved with the session
-No auto-save
-the completely terrible 4 million gig sample library
Why am I still in Logic? Who knows, but something about it feels right.
Maybe I'm insane.

Re: What sequencer are you using?
i find it funny how almost everyone i know who runs logic complains about it yet they continue to use it. cubase is the flgship sequencer. has always been the most inuitive and user friendly. i've been on that platform since i started producing on v.1 b+w on an atari 1040st. it's just a shame that the vst inst and plugs are virtually worthless but if i ran logic, i would most likey use my NI inst and waves plugs anyways. f**k the logic hype imho. |

Re: What sequencer are you using?
Joey,
Maybe it's intuitive for YOU. But I work in Cubase for an hour and I have a headache.
Logic is simply a different approach that might work for people who inhabit a headspace that is incompatible with Cubase. Like me.
Logic is hyped largely because of the producers that use it. Dom is one. Likewise, Noisia uses Cubase. Ultimately people are influenced by those they admire, and I suspect a lot of that leads to their choice of sequencers.
Me, I run Logic because I was unhappy with Reason's engine (loved the tools though) and because Cubase has so many features crammed into such a small space that it makes my head spin.
BTW, Logic also allows quick and easy key command setup and draggable time stretching. They're incredibly similar programs; it's only the layout that differs.

Re: What sequencer are you using?
i use cubase
it is pretty easy to use, i have found it to be intuitive. mostly for effects like reverb and delay i use the cubase plug ins
i never could figure out reason! haha
back in february when i was in england i collaborated on 4 tunes in logic and i found it to be pretty similar to cubase (compared to reason). there are some plug ins in logic that i liked a lot and i hear the native plug ins are supposed to be better (reverb) BUT as a pc user i am sticking with cubase
i have heard cubase 4 is even better than sx3 which i use but i haven't upgraded yet |

Re: What sequencer are you using?
We started out with Reason. Then moved to SX3 about 2 1/2 years ago and have never looked back! I have seen logic in action only a few times over at Infiltratas pad, and it looked sick! But it took forever to get comfortable with Cubase, and I cant picture ourselves moving back to square 1 again jus to learn a program that can more or less do pretty much the same thing as the one we already know! But then again im sure knowing both wouldnt be a bad thing! |

Re: What sequencer are you using?
FLStudio 8 for me. I've considered picking up Cubase or Reason but I've spent 5+ years truly grokking FL's workflow and I'm reluctant to start learning another platform. I'd rather hone my production skills than sit and spend time f**king with another DAW. That being said, FL8 is ridiculously unstable now and I find myself wishing it had some better plugins.
Some of the newer plugins are sweet... Sytrus is insane, if somewhat obtuse, but FL is lacking some basics, like a decent low-cpu-usage filter that doesn't sound like ass. Its built-in sampler is a little too inflexible for my liking too.
Then again, I know FL down pat and any issues with sound are easy enough to rectify with third party plugins, of which I have plenty of...

It has, actually. Though, there are some glaring weirdnesses that make it frustrating. For example... FL Sampler can crossfade loops for you, whereas their Kontakt-competitor DirectWave doesn't seem to have equivalent functionality -- and the manual seems to go so far as to poke fun at that oversight. In the same vein I find myself preferring Fruity Slicer over Slicex due to missing features.
A lot of the older instruments aren't that exciting either... maybe I'm just not skilled enough with them but I can never produce anything interesting out of the older plugs like SimSynth etc. Sytrus is freakin amazing but the amount of control it gives you makes it more difficult to program.
I'm also running into issues where I am finding it very difficult to tighten drumhits that are of by a few msec....if I have 4 snares stacked on each other with diff swing and attacks, its difficult aligning them to sound like one hit as the piano roll interface has no waveform display.

Re: What sequencer are you using?
You can always drag audio files to the bottom of the playlist and the wavform will show up in the playlist.
I normally only use that feature for accapellas.

Re: What sequencer are you using?
I've used Cubase for about 5 years. I love it. I don't think I'll ever switch completely to something else because I work so efficiently on it now. Although during my trip this summer I just took my laptop with Abelton on it only and my sample library.
I did this to force myself how to use Abelton. I started a dubstep tune with direct feed on it. It took me a bit to figure out how to produce with it, but I just had to change my thinking to more of a 'parts' oriented thinking instead of a 'linear progression' type thinking. It's pretty cool thinking of music in this way. I'm gonna enjoy working more with it, but in the end I think I'm still gonna do my mixing with Cubase. |

Re: What sequencer are you using?
No sense using hardware sequencers if you can avoid it. Digital sequencers = MUCH greater PPQN than hardware. Logic has (I think) over 1100 PPQN (more than PT).
Older MPCs boast about 24 PPQN. Maybe a little better now. |

Yeah definitely I agree with some of those cons of Logic, RO.
I always keep my logic open as long as possible when making tunes, days maybe even weeks sometimes, without restarting the computer.... cuz i know when i save the project, and open it up again later, the sound is gonna change a lil bit. |

I started on Cubase VST 3.5 on Mac back in the late 90s. It was pretty damn solid at the time. I later got hooked on Nuendo. The world went OSX and everything got all crashy. Settled on Logic Pro since then. Thinking about going back to Cubase. |
