Re: Ideal Song Length?
i think 7-8 is just about right, although some of my favorite tracks are in the 9-10 minute range... |

Re: Ideal Song Length?
8=9 mins long is a f**kin long time...
it all depends on tempo...
if your tune is 180BPM you do 305 bars in 6:46 seconds...
if your tune is 170BPM you do that same 305 bars in 7:10 seconds... |

Re: Ideal Song Length?
true...anybody stick to a certain amount of measures in they're tunes? it kinda trips me out cuz dnb tracks are usually pretty long, but only a few min. get mixed into a set. makes me wonder how much variety or length is necessary for it to sound good when mixed, ya know? |

Re: Ideal Song Length?
i tend to leave about 1:30 for an intro to be mixed.... then random / then 2:00 to be mixed out of... at around 174 BPM...
altho.. lately.. ive been makin tunes at 170... but I did this one at 176 the other day too.. |

Re: Ideal Song Length?
Simon @ Exchange said in the latest Knowledge that anything over 6:30 will start to lose "bigness" on a cut in order to fit on the plate ... so just keep it under that. =) |

Re: Ideal Song Length?

Re: Ideal Song Length?
it all depends on who is cutting... and how far into the label they will go...
if you look at EYSPN000...
Both sides are 7:15 (not on purpose)...
the A side goes rite up to the label... the AA side goes close to it with about a half inch all around away...
It all depends on the tune... how much bass / etc...
some people say that bass hits harder on 33rpm rather then 45...
the mastering engineer (guy who cuts the masters) should know the best way to set the lathe...
Simon @ Exchange and Neil @ Masterpiece are the better ones out there...
Niel mastered EYSPN000
SLAP T 003 mastered at Abby Road and good and loud |

Re: Ideal Song Length?
hmmm...do you like the way your tunes sound on vinyl or cd better?
or does the vinyl mastering make it sound that much different? |

Re: Ideal Song Length?
VINYL sounds MUCH better...
when they master it they do somefin to it...
If a producer sends me a digital file (wav from cd or how ever) I use it on final scratch.. but once its on vinyl.. i rip the vinyl and use that file... |
