dj patife-cool steps drum 'n' bass grooves
ok, so i bought this cd knowing that i had never heard of this dj and knowing that it could be a real waste of money...as it turns out i would say it isn't a waste of money but a great reference piece...
dj patife comes from rio, brasil one of the most musical cities in the world...and this music shows where it comes from...i would call this cd dnb meets bassa nova...good drum n bass beats matched to tons of organic insruments such as up-right bass and horns...flow and create a type of music that is really joyous...think ltj bukem only with more soul...the key to this music has to be the lovely and rich vocals that are masterfully produced by one very gifted female...used to add depth to the mix, never to distract...in a day where dnb has seemed to be so categorized i enjoy hearing someones music that still plays to the rules but only the way that they choose...

yes after reading the inset it does seem to say that he comes from sao poulo...i stand behind my word about brazil being one of the most musical places on the planet, very underated and i'd expect to see more talented dj from brazil pop up in our jungle/dnb scene in the future |

the first jungle export to come out of brazil wasn't patife or marky, but soulslinger, but he kinda sucks so it dosent really count, haha |

i love this CD. i bought it when i was back in Brazil last year... it's virtually SEAMLESS. amazing to say the very least, as was his show on the Copacabana this past New Years Eve.

i beg to differ. i think soulslinger is quite talented and usually always has a super interesting track selection.. but opinons are like assholes... =D |
